Welcome to the Meditation Pilot Project at CCRMC!
Guided meditation CDs and resources are now available in Martinez, Brentwood, Concord and Richmond family practice clinics, for your patients. Meditation is a low-cost resource that has been shown to reduce stress, reduce blood pressure, help with anxiety and pain, among other health benefits. Through a grant, we have purchased guided meditation CDs, available in both English and Spanish. Also available are patient handouts below. We are collecting and analyzing data for potential publication, and to further future donations and grants.
The pilot initially started only at Martinez Family Practice clinic, but as of June 2010, we are expanding to Brentwood, Concord, and Richmond Health Centers. If you are at another site, feel free to use any of the handouts below, and can refer patients to low-cost community resources (handout below) or to the free website for guided meditation https://members.kaiserpermanente.org/redirects/listen
To enroll your patient in the pilot: At the first visit,
1. Have them fill out a Pre-survey, before giving the CD/handouts.
2. Give them the CD/handouts (Intro to Meditation with self-log, and Community Resources) .
3. Teach them meditation in clinic, it takes 1 minute! There's a handout for providers, on how to teach them in clinic, or if you don't have time can give to them while waiting. Have them sit in a quiet place, close their eyes, focus on their breath.
After 4 months, give them the post-survey, or a volunteer will phone them for follow-up.
Martinez FPC: The nurses in Martinez Family Practice clinic should know where all the materials are. They are located in a labeled cabinet above the first computer in the workroom. So just let them know you would like to enroll your patient in the meditation project.
Any questions, comments, suggestions, please contact Robin Baltrushes or Karen Burt Site contacts: Martinez -Sarah McNeil ; Brentwood - Anni Hansen; Concord - Ken Saffier; Richmond - Krista Farey/Robin Baltrushes
